Understand the emergence of COVID-19 and how we respond to it going forward is vital to all martial arts organisations.

As an organisation we feel it is imperative that we understand how to protect our members.

With the outbreak of a novel coronavirus declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation, people worldwide are working to address it, we expect this virus will pass however at present we are taking all precautions in the interest of our clubs. advise for clubs is available by contacting our safeguarding officer.

Allergen awareness for clubs and organisations

Food Allergen Awareness and how we comply with the UK's allergen laws, is relevant for our organisation and any club that plans to host training courses or seminars where food is made available, understanding which foods commonly cause allergic reactions, how these should be labelled on food products under the EU Food Information for Consumers (FIC) Regulation, and how to ensure students and guests are provided with accurate information about the food they are offered.

Child Sexual Exploitation - Level 2

This CSE Awareness ensures Safeguarding Officers and CWO’s understand the complexities involved with child sexual exploitation issues and be aware of how to recognise it, who is most at risk, why young people respond in the way that they do and how children become implicated in CSE. This gives the BJJKO and its Safeguarding team essential information on what constitutes best practice for responding to concerns and making referrals to social care.

Preventing Bullying - Level 2

The BJJKO believe it is important that all our instructors understand what bullying is, including the five components of bullying behaviour, be able to identify who may be affected by bullying, as there are some groups of people who are likely to be more affected than others.

Understand the role technology can play in bullying behaviour (cyberbullying).

Be able to recognise a child who may be being bullied and understand the damaging physical and emotional effects.

Our officials are able to put actions in place to tackle bullying in our organisation and clubs.

Mental Health Awareness Course Level 2

Our organisation's Safeguarding officers aim to raise awareness of mental health issues, help instructors and club CWO's to support students and other instructors, we host regular workshops to help raise awareness and reduce discrimination and stigma.

Stress Awareness - Level 2

Everyone within our organisation can  become stressed. This can impact us both at home and while teaching at our clubs.

Pressure can be positive and motivating. Stress is when this pressure becomes too much and is a natural reaction to too much pressure, allowing stress to affect the way instructors run their club can be distructive.

By understanding triggers and helping instructors manage stress we hope to help improve the way CWO's and instructors aproach stress.

Equality & Diversity for Safeguarding Officers - Level 2

BJJKO Equality and Diversity training helps instructors and CWO’s understand more about their responsibilities for promoting equality and diversity in their clubs.

The Equality Act 2010 details each of the protected characteristics so that BJJKO instructors are aware of how to avoid discrimination through our words and actions.

It is important that we all know which behaviours are prohibited by the Equality Act and aim to help promote a fairer, more tolerant and more diverse organisation.

Equality & Diversity for Safeguarding Officers - Level 2

Equality and Diversity training is important to BJJKO officials from assistant instructors, club instructors, senior instructors in charge of a club and BJJKO Safeguarding Officials such as Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Officers and club CWO’s in all our clubs.

This additional qualification however is aimed at our most senior officials in charge of Safeguarding, by understanding the law and in particularly the Equality Act 2010 we can advise and in some cases protect or defend our clubs and instructors.

Breast Ironing - Level 2

Concerns have been raised that breast ironing is found amongst African communities in the UK, with as many as a 1,000 girls at risk.

CWO's and club instructors worried about the risk of breast ironing in their clubs should speak to the BJJKO Lead Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.

Instructors need to know the risk level within their club and tackle the risk as appropriate.

Domestic Abuse and Violence - Level 2

The BJJKO Safeguarding team help instructors and CWO’s who teach children to understand what domestic violence is, how it may begin, who perpetrates abuse, and how to identify when it may be happening.

Domestic violence and abuse, sometimes referred to as DVA, is a serious safeguarding children issue. Witnessing domestic violence – whether first hand, overhearing it, or only observing the after-effects – is considered a form of significant harm under safeguarding children guidance.

Equality and Diversity for CWO's - Level 1

It is a BJJKO mission to promote equality and diversity in our clubs and organisation.

The Equality Act 2010 contains full details of each of the protected characteristics and it is each clubs responsibility to be more aware of what they are and how to avoid discrimination through their words and actions. Our regular workshops look at which behaviours are prohibited by the Equality Act and by this we aim to help you promote a fairer, more tolerant and more diverse environment.

Due Diligence - Level 1

We help instructors running clubs to follow best practice in dealing with Due Diligence and working with documentation.

Adequate due diligence on new and existing students has never been so instrumental to protecting a club from reputational, operational, legals and financial risks.

BJJKO Safeguarding Officers provide practical guidance that will help clubs make clear and informed judgements. In doing so, this will also improve their ability to identify areas of potential risk in relation to Due Diligence.
